Volkswagen Taigun facelift will more likely be introduced before this year’s end or in early 2026 with cosmetic changes and feature additions

Volkswagen’s India lineup is in for a shake-up with the Taigun SUV set to receive its first major refresh. The midsize SUV, which has been on sale for a few years now, has managed to carve out a respectable following and the company is hoping to capitalise on that momentum with a mid-cycle facelift. A test prototype of the updated Taigun has already been caught on camera – wearing camouflage to hide the revisions.

The latest prototype of the Taigun facelift doesn’t give much away – the mirrors, roof rails and spoiler with an integrated stop lamp seem unchanged while the connected C-shaped LED tail lamps also mirror the current setup. Despite the camouflage covering the nose and tail, it is clear that Volkswagen is only preparing mild updates rather than a drastic redesign.

VW will keep the Taigun’s silhouette and size untouched but the revised model should get new paint choices and alloy wheels to lift its visual appeal. The bigger tweaks will be concentrated at the front, where a reworked grille, revised bumper and updated headlamps are expected. The facelift could be introduced either towards the end of this year or slip into an early 2026 launch timeframe.

Interestingly, Skoda has its Kushaq facelift on test runs as well reinforcing the fact that both siblings are being readied in parallel. Since its debut back in September 2021, the Taigun has become a backbone product for Volkswagen in India. While exterior revisions will be mild, the inside story is expected to be far more dramatic with a revamped cabin layout, added features and the possible inclusion of a Level 2 ADAS package.

Volkswagen is expected to pack the Taigun facelift with a comprehensive ADAS suite including features like adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, autonomous emergency braking, lane departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert. Under the hood, the SUV will stick to its tried-and-tested 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engines.

The 1.0-litre turbo petrol will continue to push out 115 PS and 178 Nm while the bigger 1.5-litre unit will continue to deliver 150 PS and 250 Nm. Transmission duties are expected to be handled by the familiar six-speed manual, six-speed torque converter automatic and the seven-speed DSG.

Interestingly, whispers in the industry suggest Volkswagen could introduce an eight-speed automatic as well – though that may come at a later phase in the model’s lifecycle. The next-gen Taigun is at least a couple of years away while its three-row iteration may also arrive at a later stage.
