Toyota Land Cruiser FJ is expected to make its global debut sometime next year and it will sit at the entry point of the LC lineup

The Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, initially projected for a 2025 debut, is now slated to enter production sometime in 2026 globally. Positioned as a more accessible model in Toyota’s off-road range, it will be underpinned by the IMV 0 platform – a ladder-frame chassis also used by the utilitarian Hilux Champ sold in Thailand.

Intended to sit below the Fortuner in Toyota’s SUV lineup, the Land Cruiser FJ may resonate with a wider set of buyers drawing inspiration from earlier Land Cruiser generations. The choice to build it on the IMV 0 chassis points to a new strategy – allowing Toyota to diversify its SUV portfolio with smaller, more accessible models and the FJ fits neatly within that direction.

The leaked design patents have confirmed the visual direction of the long rumoured Toyota Land Cruiser FJ, showing strong ties to both the earlier concept and the teaser image released some time ago. The details point to a rugged stance – upright front end, squared-off arches and a flat roofline.

In addition, you could clearly see the C-shaped LED daytime running lights take position up front while boxy tail lamps, thick body cladding and tall pillars round out the retro-inspired silhouette. Speculation surrounding the Toyota Land Cruiser FJ’s powertrain points to a broad spread of options, starting from a 1.5-litre diesel to a 2.8-litre diesel unit.

On the petrol side, the 2.0-litre and 2.7-litre inline-four engines are believed to be under consideration with the latter – the 2TR-FE producing 163 PS – currently emerging as the most probable choice. While an all-electric variant remains unconfirmed, it cannot be entirely dismissed given the evolving emissions landscape.

Reports also suggest that Toyota may equip the Land Cruiser FJ with a full-time four-wheel-drive system, incorporating a Torsen limited-slip differential and multiple drive modes to elevate its off-road credentials. It is yet unknown if the FJ will be considered for India or not at this moment in time.
