Tata intends to nearly double its current offering as it focusses on bringing in 30 new electric and ICE offerings by 2030

During its recent Investors Day presentation, Tata Motors laid out a forward-looking roadmap featuring a substantial expansion of its passenger vehicle lineup. The company has committed to delivering 30 new vehicles by the end of this decade, spanning mid-cycle updates and facelifts as well as brand new entries across different segments.

Of these, seven will be entirely new nameplates. The homegrown automaker intends to nearly double its current offering as it focusses on bringing in new electric and ICE offerings. The race for number two in the overall passenger car sales is certainly heating up as Hyundai and Mahindra are also planning to introduce several new models over the next five years.

Recently, Tata launched the Harrier EV and updated Altroz while the Sierra nameplate will make a comeback in its new avatar in electric and ICE guises this FY as part of the new product onslaught. It will be followed by the more premium Avinya range. The third generation Nexon and updated Punch will be part of the 23 new ICE offerings waiting in the pipeline.

Tata Motors also confirmed an investment outlay of up to Rs 35,000 crore earmarked for its passenger vehicle operations over the FY2026 to FY2030 period. This capital will also be channelled for developing next generation powertrain and electronics as well as software. The Harrier and Safari will receive a new petrol engine before the end of this FY.

The all-new 1.5L turbocharged petrol engine will be good enough to produce 168 PS and 280 Nm of peak torque and bear in mind that Tata has gained rights to modify the 2.0L FCA-sourced turbo Multijet diesel engine which is currently in use. It could get a power bumper and technology additions down the line, helping the brand to appeal to a wide base of customers.

Being an early mover in the EV space, Tata dominated over three fourth of the total market share. But the increased competition from Mahindra, MG and Hyundai is far more noticeable in recent times and more manufacturers are stepping in to grab a pie, especially in the midsize segment.
