The production of the Suzuki Jimny 55th Anniversary edition is restricted to just 55 units in France; boasts exterior and interior updates

Suzuki has taken the wraps off a special edition Jimny in France, commemorating 55 years of its iconic small off-roader. Called the Jimny 55th Anniversary Edition, the limited run model signals the last hurrah for the internal combustion engined Jimny in Europe. With no confirmed plans for an electric successor on the horizon, this edition may serve as the model’s farewell on the continent.

The decision to phase out the Jimny stems from tightening emission regulations across Europe which have made it increasingly difficult for compact ladder-frame off-roaders to stay compliant. The 55th Anniversary Edition of the Suzuki Jimny brings a handful of cosmetic tweaks, both inside and out, to set it apart from the standard version.

Only 55 examples of this commemorative model will be made available in France. On the exterior, it features a unique front grille bearing prominent Suzuki lettering, retro-inspired graphic decals along the sides, black steel wheels and red mud flaps that nod to older Jimny generations. A soft spare wheel cover showcasing the classic Rhino emblem further adds to its nostalgic appeal.

Built upon the Privilege trim, the Jimny 55th Anniversary Edition retains a handful of features. It is offered in a choice of four paint options: Jungle Green, Medium Gray, Bluish Black and White. The cabin features rubberised floor mats extending from the passenger side to the rear boot, a special edition badge positioned on the centre console, a custom key ring and a leather travel journal.

Mechanically unchanged from the standard model, the Jimny 55th Anniversary Edition continues with the familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol motor, putting out 102 PS and 130 Nm of torque. A manual gearbox handles shifting duties while the four-wheel-drive system remains standard fare.

Unveiled at the 2023 Auto Expo, the five-door iteration of the Jimny entered the market through Nexa showrooms. It currently carries a sticker price ranging from Rs. 12.76 lakh to Rs. 14.97 lakh (ex-showroom). While domestic demand has remained lukewarm compared to Maruti Suzuki’s high-volume SUV offerings, the export story paints a contrasting picture. The very same five-door model has witnessed a surge in popularity in Japan and over 75,000 units have already been shipped to foreign countries.
