The first batch of Volkswagen Golf GTI has already been sold out in India; comes equipped with a 265 PS 2.0L turbo petrol engine
Volkswagen introduced the Mk 8.5 Golf GTI in India late last month. Arriving as a CBU import, the hot hatch carries an ex-showroom price of Rs. 53 lakh. The initial batch, limited to 150 units, has already been fully booked and customer deliveries are now underway. In what is now the largest Golf GTI delivery event in the country, a Volkswagen dealer in Kerala recently handed over 25 units of the performance hatchback to customers in a coordinated ceremony held in Kochi.
With the first batch already sold out, Volkswagen is preparing a second shipment of 100 units slated to arrive later this year. Powering the Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine. It delivers 265 PS maximum power and 370 Nm of torque. Paired with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox and paddle shifters, the setup allows the hot hatch to sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds.
Visually, the Golf GTI distinguishes itself from the standard Golf through a number of sporty enhancements. The front fascia features Matrix LED headlamps, LED fog lights, a GTI-specific grille badge and a continuous horizontal LED DRL strip. Around the sides, the five-spoke 18-inch alloy wheels and red brake callipers hint at its performance intent while GTI emblems can be seen on the front doors.

At the rear, the GTI receives dual exhaust outlets, an integrated roof spoiler, and 3D-style LED tail-lamps with animated indicators. An illuminated VW logo completes the distinct visual package. The German brand has equipped the Golf GTI with a dynamic mechanical setup to match its hot hatch persona. It comes with progressive steering, a front-axle differential lock managed electronically and Dynamic Chassis Control for sharper handling.
Safety and technological features include seven airbags, Level 2 ADAS capabilities and tyre pressure monitoring system. The GTI is available in four exterior colours – Moonstone Grey, Kings Red, Oryx White, and Grenadilla Black. With an electronically limited top speed of 250 kmph, it lines up against the likes of the Mini Cooper S JCW in the Indian market.

The Golf GTI carries a sport themed layout with GTI-specific design touches. Atop the dashboard sits a 12.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system while a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a head-up display, ambient lighting, automatic climate control, red contrast accents, leather-wrapped flat-bottom steering wheel, etc are also available.
