Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) has released a press release acknowledging a significant milestone it has achieved in the Indian passenger vehicle market. As of June 2025, more than 1.1 million units fitted with sunroofs have been sold by the company – marking a five-year run that tracks closely with the rising demand for globally-inspired features in mainstream segments.

The ratio of sunroof-equipped cars within Hyundai’s domestic lineup has steadily risen over the years. In calendar year 2024, such models contributed to 52 per cent of the brand’s India sales. Between January and June 2025, the volumes climbed to 54 per cent underlining just how rapidly customer preferences have evolved.

The second largest carmaker in the country currently offers sunroofs in 12 out of 14 models sold. From compact hatchbacks to large crossovers, the feature’s availability has widened significantly – backed by localised manufacturing of panoramic sunroof units that has helped lower costs and increase access across more variants.

Observing the latest trends, Hyundai has responded by embedding premium features and technologies including sunroofs into majority of its offerings. It must be noted that every second car sold by Hyundai in the last financial year was equipped with sunroof as the feature attract family-based customers more than anything apparently in recent times.

Speaking on the new milestone, Tarun Garg, Whole-Time Director and Chief Operating Officer, Hyundai Motor India Ltd., said, “This milestone is a strong reflection
of the modern Indian customer’s aspiration for premium experiences in everyday mobility. At HMIL, we have consistently worked towards democratizing global technologies and high-end features for a broader set of customers.”

Hyundai has to be credited for reacting to the trend early on as it quickly expanded the presence of sunroof across its model lineup and especially, the Venue, Exter and Creta have garnered high volumes equipped with this feature which could be voice activated or panoramic or single pane in nature.

In June 2025, the Creta continued to reign as the best-selling model for the brand and it was also the most sold passenger vehicle in India. The next generation Creta is expected to arrive within a couple of years and it could get big revisions inside and out alongside featuring a hybrid powertrain.
