Hero MotoCorp Introduces ‘Battery-as-a-Service’ Model for EV Ownership

In a strategic move to make electric mobility more accessible and flexible, Hero MotoCorp has rolled out a ‘Battery-as-a-Service’ (BaaS) model for its electric two-wheelers. This innovative approach separates the cost of the battery from the vehicle, enabling customers to purchase an EV at a significantly lower upfront cost and subscribe to a battery usage plan instead.

The BaaS model is part of Hero’s effort to reduce entry barriers in the EV segment and improve affordability. Customers can now opt for a subscription-based battery plan, which also includes maintenance and replacements, enhancing the overall ownership experience. The initiative is initially available with Hero’s Vida electric scooters, and is expected to expand across more regions and products soon.

Dr. Swadesh Srivastava, Head of Emerging Mobility Business Unit at Hero MotoCorp, stated, “With the BaaS model, we aim to accelerate EV adoption by giving users flexibility, reducing costs, and removing the anxiety related to battery life and performance.”

This move places Hero MotoCorp among the growing list of OEMs leveraging subscription models to reshape electric vehicle ownership in India. It also aligns with the government’s push for cleaner, more sustainable mobility solutions.
