GaadiWaadi –
Here we have explained about the possible new hybrid 7-seater SUVs that are expected to launch over the next couple of years in India
Automakers are intensifying efforts in the SUV segment with hybrids quickly emerging as the common thread among forthcoming launches. Persistent challenges such as inadequate charging infrastructure and anxiety over range have slowed down EV acceptance – creating an opening for hybrids to act as the middle ground.
As more carmakers mull over introducing hybrid choices across different price points, the upcoming range of launches will be critical in shaping buyer preferences. They could serve as a litmus test for which hybrid formats truly strike a chord with customers. Examining the hybrid SUVs already in the pipeline gives an early glimpse of which direction the market is likely to take:
1. Hyundai Ni1i SUV:
Hyundai is reportedly developing an all-new SUV, codenamed Ni1i, which could make its market debut around 2027. Slated to slot between the Alcazar and the Tucson, it will be one of the brand’s highlighting launches in the coming years. Early indications suggest it may feature a hybridised iteration of the company’s well-known 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor which could be used in the next-gen Creta too.

2&3. Renault Boreal & Nissan SUV:
After the arrival of its compact vehicle based on the Triber, scheduled to be introduced before the current financial year concludes, Nissan is preparing to bring a midsize SUV to the Indian market. The forthcoming product will play a pivotal role in widening the brand’s domestic range as it currently sells the Magnite only in the volume space.
Waiting to be positioned in one of the most competitive segments, the SUV is expected to challenge long-standing leaders in the midsize category including Creta, Seltos, Scorpio N and others. Next in line after Nissan’s midsize SUV is a larger three-row model which will share design links with the recently revealed Renault Boreal.

While the Boreal itself is tipped to make its way to Indian showrooms in the coming years, its entry will not be immediate. Ahead of that, the spotlight is set to fall on the all-new Duster which will arrive sometime next year. Reports suggest that the new iteration of the Duster may introduce a hybrid option at a later stage and it could be offered in its seven-seater sibling as well as its Nissan cousin.
4&5. 7-Seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder:
Speculation around three-row iterations of the Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara continues to grow with both models likely candidates for future expansion. The demand for midsize SUVs that have been stretched into seven-seat layouts adds weight to the possibility. Should these longer versions move forward, they could carry over the current hybrid setups without major changes to their powertrain setups.
