BHEL to Spearhead Rollout of 72,300 EV Charging Stations Under ₹10,900 Crore PM E-Drive Scheme
Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) is set to lead a massive nationwide deployment of 72,300 public EV charging stations under the ambitious ₹10,900 crore PM E-Drive scheme. The initiative, scheduled to run from October 2024 to March 2026, aims to fast-track India’s electric mobility transformation.
The EV charging stations will be strategically located along 50 national highway corridors, metro cities, toll plazas, railway stations, airports, fuel outlets, and state highways, ensuring widespread accessibility and convenience for EV users.
As the nodal agency, BHEL will also develop a unified digital super app that will allow real-time slot booking, seamless payment integration, charger status updates, and access to deployment dashboards. The app will serve as a one-stop platform for users and stakeholders, enabling smooth coordination and optimal use of the EV infrastructure.
This large-scale effort will support a broad spectrum of electric vehicles including e-2 wheelers, e-3 wheelers, e-buses, e-trucks, and e-ambulances. The scheme is expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, boost Make in India manufacturing, and generate green jobs across sectors.
Through this initiative, India moves a step closer to becoming a global leader in sustainable, connected, and inclusive mobility, laying the foundation for a cleaner and more resilient transport ecosystem.
