The list of upcoming 7-seater hybrid SUVs includes models from Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Toyota, Renault and Nissan
Automakers are increasingly leaning on hybrids as the connecting link in their SUV strategies with several new launches centred around this technology. While electric vehicles face hurdles such as limited charging networks and concerns over driving range, hybrids are stepping in as the practical bridge – offering better fuel efficiency without demanding a full transformation to electrification.
The upcoming models will serve as a litmus test for hybrid adoption in India. With multiple carmakers preparing to introduce hybrid models across varied price segments, it will be interesting to see how the market reacts. Here we have explained about all the possible three-row arrivals from brands like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Toyota, Renault and Nissan:
1. Hyundai 3-Row SUV:
Hyundai is said to be working on an all-new SUV codenamed Ni1i with a launch timeline pegged for around 2027. Positioned to bridge the gap between the Alcazar and Tucson, it is tipped to be one of the brand’s headline introductions in the Indian market. Initial reports indicate that it could be powered by a hybridised version of Hyundai’s familiar 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.

2&3. Renault Boreal & Nissan SUV:
Set to enter one of the most hotly contested spaces in the Indian market, Nissan’s upcoming midsize SUV will take aim at established players like the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos and Mahindra Scorpio N. Following this launch, Nissan is also lining up a bigger three-row SUV which is likely to borrow styling cues and design DNA from the recently unveiled Renault Boreal.
Although the Renault Boreal is expected to eventually head to Indian showrooms, its launch is still a couple of years away. Before that, attention will shift to the all-new Duster, slated for arrival next year. The upcoming Duster could also gain a hybrid powertrain at a later stage and the same system may extend to its seven-seat derivative as well as the Nissan-badged counterpart.

4&5. 7-Seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder:
Rumours are mounting that Toyota Hyryder and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara could see extended three-row versions in the future. Growing demand for midsize SUVs with seven-seat layouts consolidates the case for such expansions. If launched, these longer models are expected to retain their existing hybrid powertrains with little to no mechanical changes.
