Mahindra appears to be developing as many as three new compact SUVs which will arrive over the next couple of years in India
Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing for an eventful year with a flurry of SUV launches on the horizon. The lineup will feature new models, refreshed iterations of popular nameplates, and electric avatars. With test mules of several upcoming products already spotted across India – both its conventional and EV lineups are expected to see plenty of action in the months to come.
Mahindra has been putting the three-door Thar through repeated testing in recent months and the changes are beginning to take shape. Inspired by the Thar Roxx, the SUV is expected to sport revised bumpers, a reworked grille, updated lighting elements and a new alloy wheel design. Inside, Mahindra is reportedly preparing an upgraded cabin that will borrow several features and technologies from the five-door version.
On the mechanical front, the three-door Mahindra Thar will stick to its proven set of powertrains – the 1.5-litre diesel, 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines remain unchanged. Transmission options will continue to include the six-speed manual gearbox as well as the six-speed torque converter automatic.

Mahindra’s next EV will take shape as a new entry-level model positioned beneath the XUV400 in the brand’s electric portfolio. Expected to deliver a driving range of close to 450 km, it may offer everyday usability along with long distance practicality. While the overall design and cabin layout are likely to mirror its ICE counterpart, Mahindra will incorporate subtle exterior and interior tweaks.
Spy shots of Mahindra’s production-spec Vision S have already surfaced online confirming that the compact SUV is in advanced stages of testing. First unveiled at the Freedom_NU event in Mumbai, the Vision S drew plenty of attention with its design language which takes heavy cues from the Scorpio N. Market arrival could happen as early as next year.

Mahindra has officially stated that SUVs based on the NU_IQ platform will not enter the market before 2027 – leaving some uncertainty about the exact launch timeline of the Vision S. When it does arrive, the sub-four-metre SUV is expected to share its powertrain options with the XUV 3XO which means both petrol and diesel choices could be on the cards.
In addition to the upcoming compact SUVs, Mahindra is also working on larger midsize models and is also exploring the possibilities of hybrid powertrain options. It will be interesting to see how things really pan out!
