Here we take a look at the possible upcoming EVs from Hyundai over the next couple of years
Hyundai’s EV ambitions for India have started to gather pace and while the premium Ioniq 5 has been around for a while, it was the arrival of the Creta Electric earlier this year that truly signalled the carmaker’s move into the volume-based electric space. Following the Creta EV, Hyundai is preparing a second mass-market electric model, this time derived from the Inster EV.
Internally referred to as HE1i, the new compact crossover is expected to launch during the latter half of next year. If it arrives, it will compete directly with the Punch EV, Citroen eC3 and the forthcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO EV. It will more likely be underpinned by Hyundai’s E-GMP (K) platform which has been conceived exclusively for born-electric affordable vehicles.
If priced right, it could become one of the most accessible small electric available to Indian customers with a starting price just under Rs. 10 lakh but it is too early to judge at this moment. As part of a wider roadmap, Hyundai has committed to launching 26 new vehicles by the end of FY2030 and six of which will be zero-emission vehicles.

There are already conversations reportedly underway about turning two of Hyundai’s existing ICE models into battery-powered variants – the Grand i10 Nios and the Venue. The hatchback version, if green lit, would sit opposite the Tiago EV in terms of price and footprint. The Venue EV, however, will have a tougher challenge on its hands.
With the Nexon EV already being popular in the compact electric SUV segment and Mahindra gearing up to launch the XUV 3XO EV in the coming months, Hyundai’s compact SUV could face off in a crowded arena. The second generation Venue is expected to debut this festive season in India and its electric counterpart will have a lot in common with it.

India will also serve as a production hub for Hyundai’s future EV portfolio. The carmaker has pledged Rs 20,000 crore for EV-related development in the country and a significant portion of this output will be exported to overseas markets. The second largest car producer in the country will also bring in its global premium EVs in the meantime.
