Mercedes-AMG GT XX concept produces a claimed peak output of over 1,341 hp albeit the real focus appears to be on maintaining power delivery over repeated usage
Mercedes-AMG has peeled back the curtain on the architecture of its upcoming high performance electric vehicles, led by the GT XX concept – a four-door coupe that sits on a dedicated AMG.EA electric platform. The first fully electric concept from AMG introduces a trio of compact axial flux motors engineered for dense output, efficiency and packaging. Each motor is a disc-like unit, weighing less and delivering torque from a far smaller footprint than traditional radial counterparts.
Developed in collaboration with YASA, a UK-based electric motor specialist now under the Mercedes-Benz umbrella, these units will be part of a modular drivetrain strategy set for series production from 2026. In the concept’s configuration, one of these motors sits up front as a secondary drive source while two more at the rear work in tandem – packaged as a unified rear module.
The combined hardware produces a claimed peak output of over 1,341 hp albeit the real focus appears to be on maintaining power delivery over repeated usage. Mercedes-AMG’s software team in Affalterbach has been tasked with managing operating logic across the triple-motor setup, keeping performance consistent even during intense acceleration or sustained high-speed use.
A planetary gearset, cooling systems and inverter hardware are compactly integrated around each motor – the system employing both oil and water for thermal regulation. Interestingly, the front motor can be mechanically decoupled when not in use, a strategy designed to cut drag losses. The moment power is called up, or under regeneration, the front axle re-engages, allowing torque to be routed instantly.
The exterior boasts, Sunset Beam Orange shade, exaggerated fenders, deep set intakes and a greenhouse that narrows toward the rear and there’s no rear glass. Instead, carbon and aggression shape its backside finished with a wide exposed diffuser that sits low and unapologetic. Circular taillights punch through the bodywork – framed by deep cavities. The fluid panel at the rear sits flush while an active aero element deploys when needed.
The interior layout follows minimalism with exposed frame members and ribbed surfaces mimicking high-voltage cabling. A pair of large screens – one for information, the other for command – sit within a blacked-out panel that tilts inward toward the driver while touchpoints are lined with brushed metal. A structural element resembling the AMG crest forms the centre console, ringed with illuminated tubing that glows in a burnt orange.
The wheel, pulled straight from motorsport, echoes the AMG One in its form. Drawing from a battery built around slim, vertically stacked cylindrical cells, the AMG GT XX can absorb enough energy in just five minutes to travel around 400 kilometres. Using NCMA in the cathode and silicon in the anode, engineers have pushed energy density well past 300 Wh/kg translating to longevity and fast charge capability.
