The upcoming Kia Carens EV will be the first electric MPV in the Indian market; Mahindra XEV 7e to go on sale by the end of this year
EVs are slowly gaining market share in India and banking on this trend, car manufacturers are working to diversify their electric vehicle portfolio. Along with the electric SUVs, proper three-row EVs which can fit the requirements of family-oriented buyers are also in the pipeline from multiple brands. In this article, we will look at the upcoming family EVs launching soon in India.
1. Kia Carens EV
Kia recently introduced the Carens Clavis in India, which is known to be a competent MPV for family-oriented customers. Now, the Carens EV is scheduled to go on sale next month i.e. July 2025. The electric MPV will share its design with the new Clavis, albeit with some EV-specific changes inside out.
The EV has already been spotted testing multiple times in India, and it will likely share its major powertrain components with the Hyundai Creta Electric, including the battery pack and electric motor. We expect a claimed range of over 400 kilometres from the upcoming Carens EV.

2. Mahindra XEV 7e
Mahindra will likely introduce the XEV 7e by the end of 2025 and it will be the first mass-market 7-seater electric SUV in India. The electrified version of the XUV700 can be a perfect option for family-oriented buyers, offering ample cabin space, features and comfort.
The images of the electric SUV have already leaked online, revealing the design, which seems quite familiar to the concept version. The XEV 7e will likely be offered in two battery pack options, i.e. 59 kWh and 79 kWh, with rear-wheel-drive as standard. It is expected to get a proper 3-row seating configuration with both 6-seater and 7-seater layouts.

3. MG M9
JSW MG Motor India took the wraps off the M9 premium electric MPV at the 2025 Auto Expo. Expected to go on sale in the coming months, the pre-bookings for the premium electric MPV have already commenced. The India-spec model of the premium MPV will come with a 90kWh battery pack.
The power output figures stand at 245 bhp and 350 Nm of peak torque with a claimed WLTP of 430 kilometres on a single charge. The electric MPV is targeted at family-oriented customers looking for a premium and ultra-comfortable cabin experience. Once launched, the MG M9 will rival the likes of the Kia Carnival and Toyota Vellfire in the Indian market.
