India Remove Jaiswal From Slip Training: India’s preparation for the second Test against England at Edgbaston has involved a quiet but telling change: Yashasvi Jaiswal, hitherto a regular in the slips, has been withdrawn from the cordon following a costly series of errors in the Headingley defeat.

IND vs ENG: India Remove Jaiswal From Slip Training

Jaiswal shelled four chances in Leeds, none more damaging than the reprieve he offered Ben Duckett on 97 – Duckett proceeded to compile a match-defining 149. With India’s fielding having come under intense scrutiny, Monday’s training session featured a visible recalibration of responsibilities.

India’s fielding coach, T Dilip, ran a sharp slip-catching session in training, using a black curtain to create blind spots and make the drills more challenging. The new slip cordon had Karun Nair at first slip, KL Rahul at second, and Shubman Gill at third. Yashasvi Jaiswal, after a difficult outing in the last Test, was shifted to leg slip during practice. Dhruv Jurel is positioned at short leg.

India’s fielding in Leeds was below par, with several dropped catches and misfields making things worse for the bowlers. Even Rishabh Pant, usually dependable behind the stumps, seemed off his game. The team is clearly putting extra focus on catching now, knowing how crucial every opportunity is in English conditions where one drop can turn a match.

Bowling coach Morne Morkel and assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate oversaw supplementary fielding drills, with particular attention to high catches for the pace attack, including Jasprit Bumrah.

It is unclear whether the adjustments are tactical or temporary, but the message is plain: fielding will not be taken for granted. With England leading the five-match series 1–0, India enter Edgbaston with both urgency and unease. In this form of the game, fielding doesn’t just support the bowlers — it defines the standard.

The second Test begins on July 2.
