Jota, who was 28 years old, is one of the most recognisable footballers in the world. Not only has he been a massive piece in the recent success of the English club Liverpool, but he has also been a regular player for the Portuguese national side.
Reports suggest that minutes after midnight of June 2-3, Diogo was driving his Lamborghini on the A-52 motorway in the province of Zamora in Northern Spain. His younger brother, André Silva, who was 25 years old and also a professional footballer, was also in the car.
While overtaking another car, the tyres of Jota’s vehicle blew out, forcing the vehicle off the road and catching fire. All this was confirmed by the Spanish Coast Guard.
