5 Upcoming 7-Seater Hybrid SUVs to Watch Out For In India

GaadiWaadi –

Here’s a brief roundup of the upcoming 7-seater hybrid SUVs that are expected to enter the Indian market in the coming years

The SUV frenzy continues unfazed and manufacturers are digging deeper to find new ways to pull in buyers. Across the next batch of launches, a noticeable thread will begin to emerge – a growing reliance on hybrid powertrains. For many, hybrids are shaping up as the in-between choice: not entirely electric but a significant step up in efficiency over conventional engines.

Range anxiety and charging infrastructure gaps still make full EVs a tough sell for some, and hybrids are filling that gap. As more brands push hybrid models into multiple brackets, the next phase could define what sticks. A closer look at the upcoming hybrid models shows how things are about to evolve:

1. Hyundai Premium SUV:

Hyundai is said to be developing a new premium SUV codenamed Ni1i which will likely find a slot in the brand’s lineup between the Alcazar and the Tucson. If timelines stay on course, this upcoming model could be rolled out sometime in 2027. Should that happen, it may become the second Hyundai product to emerge from the Talegaon facility. Hyundai’s upcoming SUV could feature a hybrid system centred around the well-known 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that already powers several of the company’s mainstream offerings.

2&3. Renault & Nissan SUVs:

After the compact MPV expected within the current financial year, Nissan’s next big product push for the Indian market revolves around a midsize SUV. The model will later be joined by a three-row derivative in the next FY.

Both of these upcoming Nissan offerings are expected to closely mirror the next-generation Renault Duster in terms of platform and internals. If the proposed hybrid setup secures the green light, the same powertrain could extend to the three-row versions from both brands – improved both fuel efficiency and performance.

4&5. 7-Seater Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder:

Maruti Suzuki is working on a five-seater SUV expected to sit below the Grand Vitara in the lineup. While that takes shape, the three-row iterations of the Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder remain in limbo for now. If those extended versions eventually see the light of day, they will likely carry forward the same 1.5-litre mild-hybrid and strong-hybrid petrol setups. As for the new five-seater being developed for the Arena channel, those same powertrains might be considered for it as well.
