Expected to be launched in India on November 11, the Yamaha XSR 155 will expand the brand’s 150cc motorcycle range
Yamaha is ready to launch a new motorcycle in the Indian market. The company recently sent a ‘Block Your Date’ invite for a new product launch, which could be the much-awaited XSR 155. The modern-retro roadster has been spied testing for the first time on Indian soil, further confirming its imminent launch.
The test prototype was seen in a fully camouflaged guise, giving away a bunch of new details about the upcoming XSR 155. The two-wheeler sports a neo-retro design language, and we could spot a round LED headlamp, front USD forks, beefy exhaust and an LED tail lamp.
In addition to this, it gets a tear-drop design fuel tank, LED indicators, a slim rear section with a flat bench-type single piece seat and the alloy wheels seem to be a straight lift-off from the Yamaha FZ-S/FZ-X. The international-spec model comes with a different design for the alloy wheels.

In terms of hardware, 17-inch wheels, disc brakes at both ends and a rear mono-shock are a part of the package. The motorcycle could get a round instrument cluster, further fuelling its retro appeal, however, nothing can be confirmed as of now.
Talking about the underpinnings, the XSR 155 shares the platform with the R15 V4, albeit in a different retro stance. It will be powered by the familiar 155cc single-cylinder liquid-cooled engine, putting out 18.1 bhp and 14 Nm of peak torque. The motor comes mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a slit and assist clutch.

The rider on the test mule can be seen sitting with an upright riding posture, highlighting that the XSR 155 will be much easier to ride as compared to its sportsbike sibling, R15, which has a committed riding position.
The Yamaha XSR 155 is expected to debut in India on November 11, and as per the media reports, the Nmax maxi-scooter will also be launched on the same day. We expect the XSR 155 to be positioned between the MT-15 and R15, and it will enjoy the benefits of the recent reduction in GST rates.
