Will the Asia Cup 2025 Happen This Year? The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) is gearing up to host the Asia Cup 2025, and the plans for the same are already in motion, according to a report in Cricbuzz.

There have been layers of uncertainty regarding the Asia Cup 2025. Earlier, it was said that the competition will be played later this year.

Then, following the cross-border attacks between India and Pakistan in April-May, which were triggered by the terror attack in Pahalgam, with India retaliating with ‘Operation Sindoor,’ the continental tournament was put on the back shelf as its chances of happening took a huge nosedive.

However, now it has been reported that not only will the competition take place this year, but the preparations for it have already begun.

Will the Asia Cup 2025 Happen This Year?

Yes. According to Cricbuzz, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has laid plans to conduct the Asia Cup in September, with the tentative start date of 10 September. The tournament this year will take place in the T20 format, keeping in mind the T20 World Cup next year in India and Sri Lanka.

The Asia Cup will likely be played among six teams, most likely with India and Pakistan in the same group. Over the years, the ACC have structured the tournament in such a way that India and Pakistan meet at least twice, keeping a possibility of a third clash (in the final) open as well. However, in the last three Asia Cups, India and Pakistan have together not reached the final.

India won the 2023 Asia Cup by beating Sri Lanka in the final, with Mohammed Siraj producing a dream opening spell.

Where will the Asia Cup 2025 be played?

While India is the designated host for the Asia Cup this year, the tournament will either be hosted in a hybrid format or completely out of India, possibly in the UAE or Sri Lanka, because the Pakistan cricket team will not be traveling to India.

The cricket fans would be left a tad disappointed with the Asia Cup being in T20 format as two of Indian cricket’s biggest superstars, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, have retired from the T20Is.
