Will Jasprit Bumrah Play In Asia Cup 2025: The covered lid over the potential participation of Jasprit Bumrah in next month’s Asia Cup has got everyone intrigued and voicing their opinions.
Bumrah’s matter of workload management, which has been forced by a stress reaction earlier in the year and a back surgery in 2023, which are a lot more serious than most people assume, has been a debated topic in recent times, accentuated by his being rested from the 5th Test against India at The Oval, which India won as Mohammed Siraj stepped up with the ball in the senior pacer’s absence.
Bumrah could participate in only 3 of the -5-match Test series in England. Incidentally, India won the two Tests he missed, and lost two and drew the other that he featured in. That is not to indicate that India don’t need him; on the contrary, India are always a better team with a stronger bowling attack when Bumrah is on the side.
The Indian team has no international cricket in August because their white-ball tour of Bangladesh was called off and postponed until next year.
The next international series of Team India will be the Asia Cup in September, which will be played in the UAE. India are the designated hosts, but the tournament will take place in Dubai and Abu Dhabi because Pakistan will not travel to India.
The BCCI is likely to announce the Suryakumar Yadav-led Indian T20I squad for the Asia Cup by the end of August. However, reports have confirmed a couple of major calls that will be taken in the selection meeting.
Will Jasprit Bumrah Play In Asia Cup 2025?
Yes. As per a PTI report, Bumrah will book his seat in the Asia Cup 2025 squad and take part in the continental tournament in the UAE. But, it has also been said that after playing in the Asia Cup, Bumrah will be given a rest from the first Test against the West Indies and will be available for the second Test if needed.
Then, the white-ball teams are scheduled to tour Australia for three ODIs and five T20Is before India will welcome South Africa for two Tests, three ODIs, and five T20Is.
The Men In Blue will then welcome Kiwis for three ODIs and five T20Is ahead of the T20 World Cup in February-March. It would be interesting to see how many of these games Bumrah is available for.
Meanwhile, plenty of former cricketers have spoken against the workload management of Bumrah, including some former captains and selectors.
But former India bowling coach Bharat Arun has come to Bumrah’s defense, saying to The Indian Express, “It’s so sad to hear about this stuff against Bumrah. He has had a serious surgery, and people should understand it is not as if the surgery is done and he is all good forever.”
Arun added, “No, this is far more serious stuff on his back now.”
