Electric car sales are soaring in India as options grow and charging infrastructure improves, with Tata Motors and JSW MG Motor continuing to dominate the market

Offering a wide range of electric cars, Tata and MG are two of the most popular electric car brands in India. Last fiscal, their models occupied six of the top 10 positions on the sales chart in our market. The MG Windsor EV, priced from 13,99,800 rupees (ex-showroom) and delivering a range of up to 449 km, was India’s best-selling electric car last fiscal. JSW MG Motor also offers the ZS EV and Comet EV, but it is the Windsor EV that has truly brought the company into the limelight. The company delivered 19,394 units units of this model in FY2025.

Second on the sales chart was the Tata Punch.ev, the pure electric variant of the second highest selling car across powertrain types in India – the Tata Punch. Tata Motors sold 17,966 units of this model between April 2024 and March 2025. The fully electric micro-SUV costs 9,99,000 rupees (ex-showroom) onwards and delivers a range of up to 365 km.

The Tata Tiago.ev, one of the most affordable electric hatchbacks on sale today, took the third spot. Costing 7,99,000 rupees (ex-showroom) and delivering a range of up to 293 km, the electric city car saw sales of 17,145 units in FY2025. The fourth most popular model was also from Tata Motors – the Nexon.ev, with 13,978 units delivered. The electric small SUV costs 12,49,000 rupees (ex-showroom) in its base configuration and delivers a range of up to 489 km.

The MG Comet EV, the only electric microcar available in our market, was the fifth-highest-selling electric car in India last fiscal. JSW MG Motor sold 10,149 units of this model during the April 2024-May 2025 period. The MG Comet EV retails at 7,35,500 rupees (ex-showroom) onwards and delivers a range of up to 230 km.

Occupying the sixth to tenth positions on the FY2025 electric car sales chart were the Tata Curvv.ev, MG ZS EV, Mahindra XEV 9e, Mahindra XUV400, and Tata Tigor.ev. Tata Motors sold 7,534 units of the Curvv.ev, which is the first made-in-India electric SUV-coupe, and 4,820 units of the Tigor.ev, which, having been launched in 2019, is one of the oldest EVs on sale today. JSW MG Motor shipped 7,042 units of the ZS EV, its old pure electric model.

Mahindra & Mahindra delivered 5,422 units of the XEV 9e, which is the most expensive locally manufactured EV on sale today, and 4,843 units of the XUV 400.
