Pioli, who replaced Luis Castro in September, oversaw a campaign that promised much but delivered little. Al-Nassr finished third in the Saudi Pro League, and exited both the King’s Cup and the AFC Champions League without distinction. In a brief statement, the club announced:
“Al Nassr Club Company informs that Mr Pioli and his staff are no more the acting coaching staff of the first team. We would like to thank Mr Pioli and his staff for their dedicated work during the past season.”
For Cristiano Ronaldo, it marks the second consecutive season without silverware — a dry spell that has begun to feel conspicuous at a club structured so thoroughly around his presence.
Return to Serie A on the Cards
Pioli is widely expected to return to Italy, with reports suggesting a reunion with Fiorentina is imminent. The 58-year-old last managed in Serie A with AC Milan, where he delivered a Scudetto in 2022 before parting ways after a dip in form.
Meanwhile, Al-Nassr’s coaching vacancy has already sparked speculation. Among the candidates is Sérgio Conceição, recently departed from FC Porto and notably a former Portugal teammate of Ronaldo — a link that will not go unnoticed by the Al-Awwal Park hierarchy.
