Skoda also recorded its highest ever half yearly sales in India in H1 2025 by registering a total of 36,194 units

Skoda’s production footprint in India has passed a major threshold as the company confirmed that its cumulative output has now crossed five lakh units across two manufacturing hubs – Pune and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (previously Aurangabad). The rollout of the 500,000th car coincides with a significant double celebration for the brand: 25 years of Skoda’s presence in India and 130 years since its founding globally.

The Czech brand’s story in India began back in 2001 with the first Octavia rolled out of  assembly lines in Aurangabad. Since then, the model range has grown big time. While nameplates like Laura, Superb and Kodiaq helped build early momentum, latest models such as the Kushaq, Slavia and compact Kylaq have helped Skoda strike a stronger chord with a wider customer base.

About 70 per cent of all cars contributing to the milestone came out of Skoda’s Pune facility with the remainder built in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar. Combined, these factories have become core to Skoda Auto Volkswagen India’s operations. And their significance is no longer limited to India. Skoda has begun leveraging its Indian supply base to support other markets – most notably Vietnam where the group recently inaugurated a new production unit that assembles the Kushaq and Slavia using parts sourced from India.

As a result, the India facilities are now woven into Skoda’s global strategy as an export and assembly base. Sales momentum has mirrored the back-end progress. In March 2025, Skoda recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in the country with 7,422 units delivered. The growth has arrived in parallel with increased localisation, improved dealer access and focus on both Tier 1 and emerging cities.

The brand’s wholesale tally for the January to June 2025 period reached 36,194 units –  helped in no small part by its latest additions to the lineup. The tally does more than just double last year’s H1 performance – up by 134 per cent over H1 2024 – as it also comfortably pushes past the company’s previous half-year high of 28,899 units set in 2022.

Skoda now finds itself among the top seven carmakers in the country by volume – a first in its 25-year history in the Indian market. A major factor behind this leap was the arrival of the Kylaq, the brand’s debutant sub-four-metre SUV. Since going on sale in November 2024, it has helped tap into new buyers and extend reach into smaller towns across Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions.
