Shoukath VT: From driving Rickshaw to Armwrestling glory

4 Min Read

From the busy lanes of Kerala to the grand stage of the Pro Panja League, Shoukat VT’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. Shoukath VT is a professional Armwrestler who competes in Pro Panja League’s Kochi KD franchise. He was a part of the winning team in Season 1. In the first season, he defeated Naveen NV of Kiraak Hyderabad by a margin of 5-0 and then defeated Nikhil Singh of Rohtak Rowdies by a margin of 10-0. With a dominant performance in Season 1, he is all set for Season 2.

By profession, Shoukath drives an auto-rickshaw but his true calling lies at the armwrestling table. After a full day behind the wheel, Shoukat doesn’t rest, he trains. His dedication, hard work, and countless hours in the gym have all led to this opportunity. Ahead of Season 2, we had the opportunity to chat with Shoukath to talk about his journey that has led him to the biggest Armwrestling tournament in the world.

Shoukat, thank you for joining us! You’ve become an inspiring figure, an auto rickshaw driver by day and an armwrestler by passion. How did this journey begin?

Thank you so much. My journey began in my hometown in Kerala. I’ve always been drawn to strength sports, even as a kid. I didn’t have access to big gyms or fancy equipment, but I had the will. I started practicing armwrestling with friends at local gatherings and tea shops, and slowly, it became a part of who I am.

You drive an auto rickshaw for a living. That must be physically and mentally draining. How do you find the time and energy to train?

It’s not easy, I’ll be honest. I drive from early morning till evening. After that, I go straight to training. Sometimes it’s in a small gym, sometimes it’s just resistance bands and practice with local boys. My arms are already getting a workout all day on the road, but the passion gives me the strength to push through. I believe if you want something bad enough, you’ll find a way.

And now you’re set to compete in the second season of Pro Panja League. How does that feel?

It feels like a dream. I always wanted to be on TV and wondered “Will I ever be there?” Now I’ve got my chance. I’m representing not just myself but every working-class athlete who’s fighting against the odds. I want to prove that even an auto driver from Kerala can take on the best in India.

What does your family think about your journey and this big opportunity?

They are my biggest supporters. My wife always encourages me to keep going. She herself is an Armwrestler. My kids think I’m a superhero (laughs). They are even more excited than me to see me on TV.

What message do you want to give to people watching you in Pro Panja League?

Don’t wait for perfect conditions. Start with whatever you have. Your struggle is your strength. I’m not the most privileged athlete, but I am one of the most determined. Watch me on August 5. I’ll give it everything I’ve got.

Pro Panja League Season 2 will air live and exclusive on Sony Sports Network from August 5 onwards.
