In preparation for the two-match Test series against India that begins next month, Temba Bavuma has rejoined the South African team. After suffering a left calf strain during an ODI match against England last month, the usual skipper is now fully recovered.

The spin troika of Keshav Maharaj, Simon Harmer, and Senuran Muthusamy helped the World Test champions win the second Test to tie the series, but Bavuma was not present during their recent journey to Pakistan. Prenelan Subrayen is left out of the 15-man team, while the three have been added to the Test squad to play India. The other player from the Pakistan tour who is not playing is David Bedingham.

The return of Bavuma has strengthened the batting order, which now includes Ryan Rickelton, Aiden Markram, Tony de Zorzi, Dewald Brevis, and Zubayr Hamza. Kyle Verreynne is the chosen wicketkeeper. The pacers, captained by Kagiso Rabada, complete the team; the other fast bowlers available are Corbin Bosch, Wiaan Mulder, and Marco Jansen.V

Head coach Shukri Conrad discussed the selection process, stating that the goal was to retain the majority of the players that played for Pakistan in the series that concluded with a draw between the two teams.

“We’ve kept the bulk of the squad that competed in the two-match series against Pakistan. Those players showed real character and fought hard to come from behind and draw that series. “We are anticipating a similar challenge in India, and many of the players who stood up in those conditions will once again be key for us, Conrad said.”

The first Test will be played from November 14 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata while the second Test will be hosted by the ACA Stadium in Guwahati from November 22.
