PM Modi to Flag Off Maruti Suzuki’s First Global EV, e-Vitara, from Gujarat on August 26
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to flag off Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s first global battery electric vehicle (BEV), the e-Vitara, from the automaker’s Hansalpur plant in Gujarat on August 26, 2025. This launch marks a defining moment for India’s electric mobility journey, as the Made-in-India electric SUV will not only cater to the domestic market but also be exported to over 100 countries, including key markets in Europe and Japan.
The event signals India’s rising stature as a global EV manufacturing hub, positioning the country as a major supplier of sustainable mobility solutions to international markets.
Strengthening India’s EV Ecosystem
Alongside the e-Vitara launch, PM Modi will inaugurate local hybrid battery electrode production at the TDS Lithium-Ion Battery plant—a joint venture between Toshiba, Denso, and Suzuki. This facility will produce critical components domestically, ensuring that over 80% of the battery’s value is manufactured in India.
This step not only strengthens India’s self-reliance in clean energy technology but also enhances the country’s export competitiveness, paving the way for large-scale adoption of EVs both in India and globally.
Boosting Green Manufacturing & Infrastructure
The Prime Minister’s visit will also witness the laying of foundation stones for infrastructure projects worth ₹5,400 crore in Gujarat. These investments will focus on:
Together, these measures align with India’s vision of becoming a leader in sustainable transport and green manufacturing, while also creating jobs and driving innovation in future-ready industries.
A Symbol of India’s Global EV Leadership
The e-Vitara’s global rollout reflects Maruti Suzuki’s strategic role in transforming India from being an automobile manufacturing base to an electric mobility powerhouse. The initiative aligns with the government’s broader push for Atmanirbhar Bharat (self-reliant India), while also contributing to climate goals and energy security.
With this milestone, India not only takes a giant leap in EV exports but also sends a strong message to the world—that it is ready to lead the clean energy transition with indigenous innovation, robust manufacturing, and international collaboration.
