No Talks In BCCI Over Future Of Kohli and Rohit: Reports have emerged in the last hours that the BCCI has had no discussion in regards to the future of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in the Indian Cricket Teams. This is in contrast to everything else that has been reported over the past week.
Kohli and Rohit, despite being in the twilight years of their career, are still two of the biggest names in world cricket. The pair started winding their career down when they retired from T20Is after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, in which Virat was the Player of the Match in the final, while Sharma was the team captain.
No Talks In BCCI Over Future Of Kohli and Rohit
The fact that the two are nearing their retirement was further highlighted when, in May of this year, both of them announced their retirement from Test cricket. The announcements were made only five days apart and were independent of each other.
While these announcements left the national team without two of their most senior batters ahead of a challenging Five-match Test Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy against England, they also raised questions about their status with the Indian Cricket Team. After retirement from two formats, both the greats only remain active in ODIs, the last played format of international cricket today.
In fact, the only cricket Kohli and Rohit have played since India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in February-March of this year was in the IPL. And while both of them have expressed their desire to play in the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, the fact that India will play only 12 ODIs in the next two years raised questions about Sharma and Kohli’s match fitness.

And so, rumours flew around in the past week that the BCCI is considering keeping Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma out of any future plans for the Indian Cricket Team. That included the ODIs against Australia and South Africa later this year.
However, reports have now emerged that none of the talk from the last few days might be bogus. PTI had reported via an anonymous source from within BCCI that the organisation has had no talks about the future of the two Indian greats in international cricket.
While this will come as a relief to the fans of the two cricketers, this report might also be concerning. It means that the biggest cricket board in the works has not cone to a conclusion about the future of their two biggest stars three months after they retired from Test cricket.
After a blockbuster Test series against the Three Lions, which India tired 2-2 under the captaincy of a young Shubman Gill, India will play the Asia Cup in T20 format in September before playing two Tests against the West Indies in October. The first time Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be available for national team selection is going to be a three-match ODI series against Australia down under in late October.
