Most centuries by an Indian wicketkeeper batsman in Test cricket: He struggled for most parts in the IPL 2025, barring his last game against RCB where he smacked a century in a losing cause. But Rishabh Pant continues to deliver in Test cricket.
On Saturday, in the first session of day 2 of the first Test of the India vs England Test series 2025, Pant brought up a second consecutive Test century in England, having hit a ton in 2022 in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston, and his third in England; he had hit his maiden Test century at The Oval in his debut Test series in 2018.
Not only this century at Leeds from Pant helped India surge in their first innings, but on an individual level, it took him past MS Dhoni in a huge tally that cements his legacy as India’s finest wicket-keeper batsman in Test cricket already.
IND vs ENG: Rishabh Pant breaks MS Dhoni record of most Test centuries for India by a wicket-keeper batsman
Rishabh Pant now has seven Test centuries, the most by an Indian wicket-keeper batsman in Test cricket. He went past MS Dhoni, who had six Test hundreds.
On the runs tally among Indian wicket-keepers in Test cricket, Pant is second with 3061 runs, behind only MS Dhoni, who scored 4876 runs in his Test career. Pant’s average of 43 currently is better than Dhoni’s 38.
While Pant is arguably India’s greatest keeper-batsman in Test cricket already, he is pushing himself among the echelon of the best keeper-batsmen in Test history.
One such stat alludes to this: only three designated keeper-batsmen had more Test hundreds than Pant’s seven centuries: Adam Gilchrist (17), Andy Flower (12), and Les Ames (8).
