Maruti Suzuki Victoris CBG boasts underfloor gas tank placement – freeing up additional luggage space in a similar fashion to the CNG version

Suzuki has unveiled the Victoris CBG at the ongoing Japan Mobility Show 2025 alongside showcasing the flex-fuel variant of the Fronx as part of its commitment to alternative fuels. The brand has been vocal about hybrid technologies and alternative fuel solutions and its Indian arm, Maruti Suzuki, has been reaping benefits of its S-CNG range for years.

In the near future, the company will explore more into other forms of propulsion energy in India as well as abroad. The Victoris CBG forms a crucial part of Suzuki’s Compressed Biogas (CBG) initiative which the company began developing in 2022. The project focusses on converting dairy waste into biogas, and thereby supporting rural economy.

It uses that renewable energy source to power mobility solutions. At the heart of this initiative is the Suzuki Victoris which now features a CBG-powered version based on its standard CNG-equipped model which made its domestic debut not too long ago. What makes this variant especially noteworthy is its underfloor gas tank placement – freeing up additional luggage space.

According to Suzuki, the design demonstrates the flexibility of the Victoris platform and its adaptability to multiple powertrains including petrol mild-hybrid, strong hybrid, CNG and now CBG. Dimensionally, the Victoris CBG measures 4,360 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,655 mm in height. The prototype on display features distinctive “Suzuki Compressed Biomethane Gas” decals.

The CBG version mirrors many design elements and equipment levels of the Victoris CNG with an additional dedicated fuel nozzle for CBG refuelling. From a technical perspective, CBG (Compressed Biogas) differs fundamentally from CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) despite their similar characteristics.

While CNG is derived from fossil fuels and is non-renewable, CBG is biomethane generated from organic matter and dairy waste, making it a renewable, carbon-neutral energy source. The project is supported by Suzuki’s collaboration with Indian dairy cooperatives where the company has developed miniature biogas plants to demonstrate the process.
