Over four generations and 20 years, the Maruti Suzuki Swift has gone past the 30 lakh sales milestone in India
It was back in May 2005 when Maruti Suzuki made a bold move into uncharted waters, bringing in a hatchback unlike anything else on Indian roads as the ‘Swift’ nameplate kickstarted a segment that had barely existed until then. Two decades later, one of India’s most enduring automotive badges is in its fourth generation and has certainly evolved.
The largest carmaker in the country went past the 30 lakh sales milestone with the Swift last year itself. The Swift surpassed ten lakh unit sales in just eight years since its launch and the tally doubled over the next five years. Fast forward six years, the thirty lakh volume figures were reached. The fourth generation Swift was introduced in India in 2024 and is currently available for a price between Rs. 6.49 lakh and Rs. 9.64 lakh (ex-showroom).
Rewinding a bit, the second generation model arrived in 2011 with weight savings and sharper handling while the third in 2018 leaned into tech and connectivity. In 2024, the fourth-gen Swift brought in a new Z-Series powertrain and an exterior redesign. The exterior of the current model comprises smoked LED projector headlamps, gloss-black grille finishes and a flowing wraparound character line.
