Mahindra previewed the Vision T concept at the Freedom NU event on Independence Day; To be based on the new NU_IQ monocoque modular platform
Mahindra & Mahindra showcased the Vision T concept SUV at the Freedom NU event on August 15. The SUV will be a part of the Thar nameplate, and it seems like a more mature version of the Thar.e concept, unveiled in August 2023. With the Thar 3-Door and Thar Roxx already on sale in their conventional ICE versions, the Vision T points at the all-electric Thar EV. While the details on the concept SUV are scarce at the moment, the final production-ready model will go on sale sometime in the year 2027.
To begin with, the Vision T is based on Mahindra’s all-new NU_IQ architecture. It is a modular monocoque platform, capable of supporting multiple powertrains including petrol, diesel, electric and hybrid. It also provides flexibility in terms of vehicle dimensions, as well as drivetrain configurations, i.e. front-wheel-drive (FWD) and all-wheel-drive (AWD).
In terms of dimensions, the Vision T concept will likely measure a little over 4.3 metres long with a wheelbase of 2,665 mm. This takes it closer to the territory of Thar Roxx. The longer wheelbase will allow for a better second row seating space, and the brand claims that it has the segment-best 10.3 metres turning radius.

Talking about the powertrain, the Vision T concept will most likely be an EV, considering the fact that Mahindra already have the Thar Roxx to compete in the ICE segment. This way, the Thar EV makes a strong case, aligning with the brand’s multi-energy powertrain strategy. If this holds true, the electric SUV will be powered by the familiar LFP battery, and it could be shared with BE 6 and XEV 9e. Since the platform is capable of supporting an all-wheel-drive configuration, the Thar EV is bound to get proper off-road hardware.
On the design aspect, the Vision T concept shares some resemblance to the Thar Roxx, such as the split-type front grille with horizontal slats, clamshell bonnet with visible latches, flared wheel arches and tailgate-mounted spare wheel. In addition to this, the quarter glass design, position of rear door handle and visible door hinges are some of the design elements which highlight the Vision T concept’s similarity with the Thar Roxx.

Inside the cabin, the Vision T concept features a modern yet rugged layout with a free-standing instrument cluster, a larger portrait infotainment system, a new 3-spoke steering wheel, a prominent centre console and a panoramic sunroof. Overall, the interiors of the Vision T concept are quite simple and minimalistic, something which goes well with the identity of the Thar nameplate.
