The Indian cricket team made their debut in Test cricket in 1932. In India’s history of more than 90 years in the longest format, over 300 cricketers have played Test cricket for the Asian giants.
While India have produced a flurry of artists in their legendary batsmen, few of them were renowned for their six-hitting penchant. Understandably, taking the risk of hitting a six is not something that is encouraged when it comes to Test cricket because your wicket is far more valuable in the longest format than in white-ball cricket.
A few Indian batsmen, though, showed the audacity to take the bowlers on and smack them over the boundary rope for a maximum regularly.
In this piece, we will look at the five Indian batsmen who hit the most sixes in Test cricket.
Top 5 Indian Batsmen With Most Sixes In Test Cricket:
5. Ravindra Jadeja – 69*

3. Rishabh Pant – 79*
Rishabh Pant embodies modern-age Indian cricket as the left-hander bats in a fearless mode regardless of the opposition bowler or situation of the game. Pant’s modus operandi is to counter the bowlers before they get on top of him.
In only 44 Test matches, Pant has hit 79 sixes in Test cricket, the third-most by an Indian batsman. He’s already gone past Dhoni on the sixes tally in Tests and is likely to beat him on the runs tally too in a couple of years.
2. Rohit Sharma – 88
Former India captain Rohit Sharma is hailed for his elegant strokeplay that made six-hitting look so effortless. Rohit, who retired from Test cricket in 2025, played 67 Tests matches and hit 88 sixes, the second-most for India in the longest format.
He bowed out with 4301 runs, including 12 centuries.
1. Virender Sehwag – 90
Former India opener Virender Sehwag holds the record for being the Indian batsman with most sixes in Test cricket, for hitting 90 sixes in his 103-match Test career.
Sehwag was one of the most intimidating openers of all time, known for tearing into the bowling attack with his attacking mindset, powerful force, and superb hand-eye coordination. Sehwag was the first Indian to hit a triple century in Test cricket, and he did it twice. He scored 8503 Test runs, including 23 centuries.
However, Sehwag’s record of 90 sixes in Test cricket looks very likely to get broken in a couple of years by Rishabh Pant.
