EXCLUSIVE: “There Are Two Worlds In The Same Industry” – Says Manoj Bajpayee
Bollywood today is a world of glitz, glam, and non-stop hustle. But not everyone plays by the same script. Manoj Bajpayee, one of the most respected actors of our time, says the industry isn’t just one big family… it’s more like “two worlds in the same industry.”
EXCLUSIVE: “There Are Two Worlds In The Same Industry” – Says Manoj Bajpayee
On one side, there’s the mainstream world of big stars, loud blockbusters, and glittering parties. On the other, there are actors like him, quietly making films that tell different, often deeper stories. In a recent chat with Instant Bollywood, Manoj opened up about this divide and why he’s perfectly happy sticking to his own path.

When asked if he has seen the work of any of the new actors or met them, Manoj didn’t beat around the bush.
He said, “If you ask about mainstream, I don’t know anyone honestly. My world is different because I have been doing different kinds of films. And by luck, most of my films have been appreciated in recent years.”

He went on to explain the clear divide that exists within the industry. According to him, there are “two worlds in the same industry.” On one side, you have filmmakers and actors focused on big commercial blockbusters. On the other, there are people like Manoj, who work on films that tell unique, often gritty stories.
“People from those two worlds don’t meet because there is no need,” he added. He even joked about how their meeting point is virtually non-existent, thanks to the distinct kind of stories they tell and the directors they collaborate with.
“I Sleep By 10, Most Parties Start At 11, It’s Not For Me” – Says Manoj Bajpayee
Curious if Manoj ever wonders what the other world (the glamorous, glitzy mainstream industry) is like, he was refreshingly honest.
“I have already seen it extensively. But now there is no need. If there is an invitation, I’ll go for 15-20 minutes, and then come back.”
And then, of course, came the most relatable reason of all: “I’m a person who sleeps at 10:00 pm. Most parties start at 11:00 pm – not for me.”
Manoj Bajpayee is content with his own space in the industry. He doesn’t feel the need to chase the limelight or rub shoulders with the glitterati. Instead, he’s focused on doing meaningful work, and that’s enough for him.
