In a recent exclusive chat with Instant Bollywood, Sonakshi Sinha opened up about her early days in the industry, her equation with Salman Khan, and the surprising payment she asked for when working on Dabangg.

It’s hard to imagine now, but back when she was just starting out, Sonakshi had a rather unusual request when it came to her paycheck. When Salman Khan asked her what she wanted in return for the film, Sonakshi didn’t ask for money, designer clothes, or even a luxury car. She simply said she wanted a phone.
“Yeah! I said, ‘Just give me a phone.’ He started laughing at me,” Sonakshi recalled with a smile.
And not just any phone. She specifically wanted a BlackBerry. At the time, BlackBerrys were all the rage, and for a 21-year-old newcomer, that felt like enough. Her simplicity and innocence really stood out. It’s no wonder Salman found the whole thing amusing.
Reflecting on how much she has changed since then, Sonakshi shared, “A lot. I’m definitely not the same anymore. I was 21 when I started prepping for the film, and by the time it released, I was 23. I was like a baby then. Since then, I’ve learned a lot and done a lot of work.”
She has indeed come a long way. From the shy newcomer in Dabangg to a confident actor with several strong performances under her belt.

When asked what sets Salman Khan apart from every other superstar in the industry, Sonakshi had a clear answer.
“Just how unaffected and unbothered he is by his stardom. He’s very nonchalant. Like, he’s taken it all in stride. I don’t think even he knows how big of a star he is. And he lives his life the way he wants to. I think that’s really amazing.”
That sense of being grounded, despite being one of the biggest names in Bollywood, is what continues to impress those who work closely with Salman. For Sonakshi, who shared screen space with him in one of her first films, that impression seems to have only grown stronger over the years.
From a BlackBerry to blockbuster roles, she has clearly come a long way.
