While most fans remember Dabangg as her big Bollywood debut opposite Salman Khan, very few know that during the same time, she experienced a silent heartbreak back home. Sonakshi has always been an animal lover.
She was asked about the difficulty of losing a pet, especially when you have a strong emotional bond. That’s when she opened up about Nugget, her beloved cocker spaniel, who had been by her side since her school days.
“It happened during my first film. I had a cocker spaniel named Nugget who’d been with me since school. He followed me everywhere, went wild when I came home, and even slept in my bed with his head on my pillow.”

Their bond was more than just companionship. Nugget was family. He was a constant presence in her life, always there to welcome her, always full of love. But sadly, as Nugget grew older and less active, life began to change.
“Then I started shooting, and by then he had grown quite old. So, he couldn’t be very active. When I was away for a shoot, he passed away. No one told me. This was during Dabangg. And when I came back from that schedule, they told me he had passed away. And I died inside. I felt so bad, like I didn’t even get to say goodbye.”
Sonakshi’s words painted a heartbreaking picture. She lost her closest companion while she was away chasing her dreams. Not being able to say goodbye made the loss even more painful.
“After that, I kind of detached from animals. I haven’t really had a dog after that.”
The experience left a lasting impact. The pain of losing Nugget was so deep that she chose to step back from the idea of having another pet. While she was dazzling everyone on screen with Dabangg, her heart was quietly breaking off screen.
