England Cuts Down On Indian Lead On Day 3: England slashes down the lead that India took in the first inning, finishing just six runs behind after both sides have batted once in this Test match, barreling towards a conclusion on its final two days.

The 1st India vs England Test match out of five in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy is currently underway at Headingley in Leeds. Today was Day 2 of this match. The home side won the toss and decided to bowl first before Day 1, on which the Indian Cricket Team made 359 runs and lost only three wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal and captain Shubman Gill scored centuries.

On Day 2, the Indian batting collapsed after Rishabh Pant scored a ton as well. After getting out for 471, it was India’s turn to bowl. The English lost a wicket early, but a century by Ollie Pope took the innings to 209/3 at the end of the day. Jasprit Bumrah bowled magnificently and took all three wickets on Day 2, while some catches were dropped off his bowling.

Day 3 started with Pope getting out fairly quickly, caught in a trap while attacking off a ball by Prasidh Krishna. Captain Ben Stokes couldn’t add too many runs to the total, scoring only 20 as the team’s score was now 276/5.

But then came a solid partnership between Brook and wicketkeeper Jamie Smith. At this point, both batters took to attacking the Indian bowlers, scoring at least a boundary in most overs, even several in some. The two batted for 15 overs together and put up 73 runs on the board before Smith was dismissed for 40.

Harry Brook kept the English train chugging, reaching the score of 99 before getting out in heartbreaking fashion, one run shy of a 100. He batted with a strike rate of nearly 90.

The England Cricket Team’s lower order, unlike the Indian tail, scored some decent runs. The score was 398/7 when Brook’s wicket fell, with the home side still trailing by 73 runs. But with Chris Woakes scoring 38, Brydon Carse making 22, and Josh Tongue contributing 11 runs. By the time the Three Lions were all out, the score was 465, just six runs shy of India’s total.

Jasprit Bumrah was, unsurprisingly, the pick of the bowlers from the English innings. Not only did he take a fifer, but he also looked lethal any time he had the red leather in his hand.

In the final session of the day, the Men in Blue came out to bat. First inning centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal got out after just scoring four runs, getting caught behind off a ball by Brydon Carse. KL Rahul and debutant Sai Sudharsan then scored some runs together.

But a few overs before the end of play, England captain Ben Stokes dismissed Sudharsan for 30. The day was instead ended by Rahul on 47 and captain Gill on six, with the Indian Cricket Team’s score being 90/2 and them having a 96-run lead on Day 3 of this 1st India vs England Test match.
