Tata Sierra is expected to go on sale next month in India with the electric version arriving first before the petrol and diesel iterations
Tata Motors is expected to introduce the much-awaited new generation Sierra next month in India. The midsize SUV will herald the return of the nameplate in a brand new avatar after decades of absence and it will be sold in an expansive range. It will sit slightly above the Curvv and below the Harrier in the brand’s SUV portfolio.
As we previously told you, the homegrown auto major will launch the electric Sierra before the petrol and diesel versions. The zero-emission Sierra will more likely be available in two battery options with a claimed driving range going over 500 km between charges. It could have a lot in common with the recently launched Harrier EV.
For the ICE version, Tata appears to be preparing three derivatives of a 1.5-litre engine – a naturally aspirated petrol, a turbocharged TGDi petrol and a diesel. The new turbo unit could also find its way into the Harrier and Safari later producing 168 PS and 280 Nm. Both six-speed manual and six-speed torque converter automatic transmissions will be on offer.

Expected to be priced between Rs 11.5 lakh and Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom), the ICE Sierra will compete with the segment-leading Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara and recently launched Victoris, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, MG Astor, MG Hector, Honda Elevate, VW Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, Citroen Aircross, etc..
The all-new Tata Sierra pays homage to the original while bringing in a more sculpted appearance. It retains the curved rear side windows and squared-off wheel arches that made the old Sierra a true icon but now features new split LED headlamps, 19-inch alloy wheels, connected lighting system, star-shaped alloy wheels, a large greenhouse, boxy tailgate, busy bumpers and so on.

The cabin will boast a triple screen arrangement – one each for the instrument cluster, central infotainment and front passenger display. The dashboard gets a dual-tone finish, a four-spoke multifunctional steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo, Harman sound system, ambient lighting, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, powered driver seat, drive and terrain modes and ventilated front seats.
As for safety, the new Tata Sierra will come with six airbags as standard, electronic stability control, electric parking brake, a 360-degree camera setup, a suite of Level 2 ADAS tech and more. Expected to measure around 4.3-4.4 metres in overall length, the Sierra could get a long wheelbase aiding in a roomy interior.
