India’s midsize SUV market is bracing for an action-packed next year and a half with a string of new models set to arrive from multiple manufacturers. The segment, already one of the most hotly contested spaces in the industry, is about to get even more crowded as new contenders line up for launch. Automakers like Mahindra, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Toyota, Renault and Nissan are preparing to slot in their upcoming SUVs. The stage is set for an intense battle for dominance and here’s a rundown of what’s heading our way.

1. New Gen Renault Duster:

2024 Euro-Spec Renault Duster

The Duster is set for a comeback in India with Renault planning to introduce the next-gen SUV in the first half of 2026. Built on the CMF-B+ modular platform, the model will initially be offered with petrol engines while the bigger development is expected later in its lifecycle with the addition of a hybrid powertrain.

2. Nissan Midsize SUV:

Early next year, Renault will add a new midsize SUV to its range – positioned as the spiritual successor to the Terrano. The five-seater will share its CMF-B+ platform with the upcoming Duster – borrowing design elements and mechanical bits while offering a modern cabin loaded with features and technologies.

3&4. New Tata Sierra ICE & EV:

Tata is preparing to revive the iconic Sierra badge with the first model to roll out as an all-electric SUV before the end of this financial year. Test mules have already been spotted on several occasions and the range will grow further in 2026 with petrol and diesel options.

5. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara:

Maruti Suzuki is preparing to roll out its first all-electric model for India – the e Vitara. Set to be retailed via the premium Nexa chain, the SUV is expected to hit showrooms in the coming months. Buyers will get to choose between two battery configurations with the top-spec variant claiming a driving range of 500+ km on a single charge.

6. Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV:

Maruti Suzuki’s Urban Cruiser BEV, a sibling to the e Vitara, will also sit on the e Heartect platform and come with two battery options offering a similar driving range to the e Vitara. While it will differ slightly in dimensions, the feature set is expected to closely mirror the e Vitara and the Urban Cruiser BEV is slated to launch shortly after its larger counterpart.

7&8. Updated Mahindra XUV700 & XEV 7e:

Mahindra is readying a facelift for the XUV700, expected to be unveiled in early 2026. The update will bring subtle design tweaks, a refreshed interior and new premium features, while the SUV will carry forward its proven powertrains with the existing gearbox choices. The XUV.e8 concept based three-row XEV 7e could also arrive next year.
