Tata is planning to introduce a new midsize SUV in the form of the returning Sierra while Mahindra will bring in its first three-row EV this month too
The month of November 2025 is shaping up to be a busy one for the Indian SUV market as two highly anticipated launches draw near – the new generation Tata Sierra and Mahindra’s all-electric XEV 9S. Both models are set to make their global debuts this month and they will play integral roles for their respective brands in the SUV space.
The Tata Sierra will officially mark its return on November 25 – reviving an iconic nameplate that defined the brand’s identity decades ago. The SUV will sit between the Curvv and Harrier in Tata’s lineup and will be offered in both electric and internal combustion engine versions. The ICE version will arrive first with the EV to follow later.
Powering the Sierra will be Tata’s new 1.5-litre engine family which includes a naturally aspirated petrol, a turbocharged petrol and a diesel unit. The turbo petrol motor is expected to produce around 168 PS and 280 Nm and will be available with both six-speed manual and automatic transmission options.

The electric Sierra, on the other hand will more likely share its platform with the Harrier EV and is expected to come with two battery options. The larger pack could offer a driving range exceeding 500 km on a single charge. Fast-charging capability, bidirectional charging, and a strong equipment list will help appeal to a wide range of consumers.
Mahindra, meanwhile, will unveil the XEV 9S on November 27 at its ‘Scream Electric’ event in Bengaluru. It will be the brand’s first fully-electric, three-row SUV designed on the dedicated INGLO skateboard platform. Unlike ICE conversions, the XEV 9S is built as a pure EV from the ground up – allowing for a flat floor and flexible interior layout.

The teaser reveals signature design details such as full-width LED light bars, the new Twin Peaks logo, panoramic sunroof and XEV 9S lettering on the tailgate. Inside, it is expected to feature a triple-screen dashboard, premium upholstery, advanced ADAS, and powered seats. Two battery options are likely to be offered with an estimated range of over 500 km.
The Mahindra XEV 9S takes plenty of influence from the XUV.e8 concept showcased just over three years ago and it will have its commonalities with the XUV 700 too which is due a facelift in early 2026.
