On X, a user asked the Mahindra & Mahindra chairperson how he would handle the competition, should Tesla come to India. In response, Anand Mahindra said this wasn’t the first time such a question was asked of him.
“We have been asked similar questions ever since the opening up of the Indian economy in 1991. How will you compete against Tata? Maruti All MNCs?” he wrote.
“But we’re still around. And working like maniacs to still be around & relevant even a century from now. With you cheering us on, we will make that happen,” he concluded.

Social media users praised his positive attitude towards growing competition from Tesla. A user wrote, “Competition drives innovation, and no one innovates like India!”
Another added, “I think India has a lot of untapped potential. More competition means more opportunities. Also, more options for consumers.”
“Love the energy & confidence here. Anand Mahindra Sir! This is a critical period for staying relevant and carving out a place in the competition with grit, vision, and innovation,” another comment read.

Anand Mahindra responded to another tweet, recalling his 2018 post about Elon Musk. “Anandji, not many recall your tweet to Elon Musk, where you asked when he was coming to India & if he was leaving the entire EV space to Mahindra. He replied too. That day I realised the belief you had in your products,” a user wrote, to which the chairperson responded, “Yes, Naresh. And even fewer remember my post of 2018, when he was going through a challenging period.”
