ESPNcricinfo has reported that the Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited (CSKCL), the company that owns CSK, has ratified the appointment of Srinivasan and his daughter to the board of directors. Their positions are expected to be confirmed at the company’s upcoming annual general meeting, which is scheduled to be held on September 27.
What is the role of N Srinivasan in CSK?
N Srinivasan was the closest ally of MS Dhoni when he was actively taking decisions for CSK. The 80-year-old Srinivasan has effectively been retired for the past many years while his daughter, Rupa Gurunath, has been running the business after his son-in-law, Gurunath Meiyappan, was found guilty by the Supreme Court of spot-fixing and betting scandals in IPL 2013.
Srinivasan is set to become the chairman of the CSKCL board of directors, getting powers to take decisions for the CSK franchise. His daughter, Rupa, will be a full-time director at the CSKCL company.
Who is Kasi Viswanathan?
Kasi Viswanathan, the man who has been at the forefront of CSK’s administration over the last few years, including taking part in the IPL auctions, is the chief executive officer of the CSK franchise and is also on the CSKCL company’s board as the managing director.
On Srinivasan’s return, Viswanathan was quoted as saying by PTI, “See, it’s a great boon for CSK. He’s been the best administrator for us and I’m very happy that he’s come back into CSK. He’ll be in an advisory role only because he doesn’t travel much, but we’ll be in contact with him.”
Srinivasan is also a former BCCI President and a former ICC Chairman. He was responsible for MS Dhoni being retained as the Indian Test team captain after India lost 4-0 each in England and Australia in 2011/12.

Talking about on the field, CSK had a forgettable IPL 2025 season, where they ended up with the wooden spoon, finishing 10th in the ten-team tournament. They managed only four wins in 14 outings. Ruturaj Gaikwad captained the side in the first five games but was ruled out due to an injury. Then MS Dhoni took over the reins, but wins remained few and far between.
The franchise is currently gearing up for the IPL 2026 mini-auction, which is expected to take place in December this year.
