Will Rain Help India Draw the 4th Test?

Weather Report in Manchester Today: A terrific effort from KL Rahul and Shubman Gill in the second half of day 4 of the ongoing Manchester Test kept India’s hopes alive of saving the IND vs ENG 4th Test.

If the duo keep going on day 5 as they did on day 4, and with some help from the notorious English weather, India could escape Old Trafford without a loss, which would allow them to have a chance of potentially drawing the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy in the 5th Test at The Oval.

Rahul and Gill showed great resilience and tenacity in the face of adversity on day 4 at Old Trafford after India had lost two wickets in the first over in their second innings.

Through centuries of Joe Root and Ben Stokes, England piled up 669 runs in their first innings, in reply to India’s first innings total of 358, finishing with a massive lead of 311 runs and batting India out of the game.

Then, Chris Woakes dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan in the first over, best reflecting the tired bodies and frustrated minds of the Indians, as India had conceded their first 600+ total in a Test innings since 2014.

When India were 0/2 down in the first over, it seemed they would be rolled over by the end of day 4 and suffer an innings defeat and consequently lose the series.

However, captain Gill and senior batsman Rahul, who are both having the most prolific Test series of their careers, stood like walls against the England bowling attack that was deprived of Stokes, as the England captain seemingly dealt with an injury that kept him from bowling on day 4.

It was defiance of the highest order from KL Rahul and Shubman Gill. They survived the nervy moments around drinks and session breaks and most importantly played out the last half hour of the day cautiously, a period of play in which India have lost wickets multiple times in this series.

By the end of day 4, India are 174/2, trailing by 137 more runs. Rahul is on 87* and Gill on 78*, their partnership being worth 174* runs off 377 balls.

When they walk out to bat on day 5, India will hope that this pair continues to bat the way they did on day 4 and also look up in the skies for some help from the rain gods.

Let’s check out the weather report for day 5 in Manchester.
