Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be sold with two battery options with the claimed driving range going over 500 km between charges
Maruti Suzuki is gearing up its service network ahead of the e Vitara’s official market launch. It will become the brand’s first all-electric offering and its production has already commenced for global markets. Anticipating the different requirements that come with EV ownership, the company has set a goal of expanding its service footprint to 8,000 outlets nationwide by FY31.
At the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat, Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a landmark moment recently for Maruti Suzuki by flagging off production of the e Vitara. Alongside, the plant also rolled out India’s first domestically produced lithium-ion cells and electrodes for hybrid vehicles as the Indo-Japanese manufacturer looks to up the ante in the eco-friendly space.
The initial lot of cars is set to ship out this month via Pipavav port in Gujarat. Destined for markets including the UK, Germany, Norway, France and the Netherlands, Maruti Suzuki is positioning the e Vitara to be India’s most widely produced and exported electric car to date and resultantly, its local launch is taking a bit more time as the previous timeline won’t like be met.

Instead, we expect Maruti Suzuki to announce the prices of the e Vitara before the closure of this CY and it will compete with Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV and Harrier EV, Mahindra XEV 9e and others. The starting price could be in the region of Rs. 18 lakh (ex-showroom) and it will be sold with two battery options just as in the international markets.
The upcoming midsize e-SUV will more likely be available in three trims – Delta, Zeta and Alpha – with two BYD-sourced LFP blade cell battery choices on offer: a 48.8 kWh pack and a bigger 61.1 kWh unit – the latter getting over 500 km of certified range. While the international version features an all-wheel drive system, the India-spec model is expected to stick with a front-wheel-drive setup.

The 49 kWh pack coupled with an electric motor produces 144 PS and 192.5 Nm of torque. The larger unit comes with a more powerful motor rated at 174 PS while torque remains the same at 192.5 Nm. Thanks to DC fast charging, the battery can be topped up from 0 to 80 per cent in around 50 minutes and buyers will also get to pick from ten exterior paint shades.
Built on the Heartect-e platform co-developed with Toyota, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara is packed with features such as Level 2 ADAS, seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), a 10.25-inch infotainment system, a 10.1-inch digital driver’s display, a 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, wireless phone charge and more.
