The heavily localised compact electric SUV from Hyundai is expected to go on sale within a couple of years in India
Recently, Hyundai unveiled one of its most ambitious strategies yet targeting 5.55 million global vehicle sales by 2030. Central to this vision is emphasising its electrified range with nearly 60 per cent of total sales expected to stem from EVs and hybrid models. The company will focus on new body styles while strengthening its in-house software expertise and boosting production capacity too.
As part of its India-focussed strategy, Hyundai has announced plans to bring its Genesis luxury lineup to the market in a couple of years. Alongside this, the company is preparing to launch its first Extended Range EVs by 2027 which are expected to deliver a claimed range of up to 965 km on a single charge globally.
Hyundai’s transformation will be backed by a substantially expanded product lineup. The company aims to offer 32 models in India by FY 2030 – comprising thirteen IC-engined vehicles, eight hybrids, five EVs and six CNG options. Its product strategy will stretch across five fiscal years with 26 new launches planned in total.

The most aggressive phase is scheduled between FY 2029 and FY 2030 when Hyundai intends to introduce 14 new or updated models. The Korean carmaker in India is concentrating on launching seven all-new nameplates, six full model changes, six derivatives and seven facelifts or product enhancements.
The brand is preparing to launch the all-new Venue early next month featuring a host of updates both inside and out. At the same time, the company has been testing facelifted versions of the Ioniq 5, i20 and Verna. The upcoming India centric Hyundai EV is expected to take styling cues from the brand’s popular sub-4m SUVs such as the Venue and Exter.

It may also incorporate elements inspired by global models like the Ioniq and Inster Electric. Likely to sit below the Creta Electric in Hyundai’s lineup, the compact electric SUV is expected to come with a competitive price – aided by a high level of local content.
At launch, it is expected to offer two battery options with a claimed driving range of over 450 km on a single charge. It will more likely compete with Tata Punch EV, MG Comet, Citroen eC3, etc and in a typical Hyundai fashion, it could be packed with high-end features too. It could be sold in an expansive range catering to different sets of customers.
