The strong hybrid models from Honda in the Indian market will include the new-gen City sedan, 7-seater SUV and midsize SUV among others
Honda Cars India has been selling the City e:HEV strong hybrid model in the domestic market for the last three years. Powered by a 1.5L petrol engine with strong hybrid tech, it has max power output of 124 bhp along with mileage of 26.5 kmpl. Despite these exceptional figures, Honda City e:HEV tasted limited commercial success due to its exorbitant price of Rs 20.85 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Hence, Honda is now planning to introduce multiple strong hybrid models in the Indian market, albeit with a lot of localized content to achieve aggressive pricing unlike the City strong hybrid.
The upcoming Honda strong hybrid models will be based on the newly-developed PF2 platform. The future product line-up of the brand will use this modular architecture which is highly compatible with strong hybrid powertrain. Needless to say, these will have substantial localization in order to keep the pricing rather competitive.
The upcoming strong hybrid vehicles from Honda will include the new-gen City sedan, 7-seater SUV and midsize SUV among others. All these models will be offered in a price range of Rs 15-30 lakh in the Indian market. Since the CAFE emission standards are likely to be implemented in the coming couple of years, the demand for the strong hybrid vehicles is believed to rise.

Recently, Honda had announced its electrification roadmap globally with a commitment to introduce hybrid models in key markets including India. Since the City e:HEV could not achieve the desired success, the company now intends to launch affordable, locally produced and fuel efficient hybrid models in a bid to regain the lost ground.
Identical to Honda, multiple other leading automakers such as Hyundai, Kia and Skoda-Volkswagen are also ready to roll out hybrid models in the Indian market. While the new-gen Seltos will mark Kia’s entry in the strong hybrid segment of cars by mid 2026, the new-gen Creta will debut Hyundai’s strong hybrid tech in India when it arrives by early 2027.

Skoda-Volkswagen is also keen on launching hybrid models in the midsize SUV and sedan segments. As per recent media reports, Skoda-Volkswagen hybrid cars will be based on a new localized IMP21 platform, which has been derived from CMP architecture with the inclusion of local elements. Though there is no official word, we can expect the hybrid vehicles from the European brands to go on sale in India by 2028.
