Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV will be available with two battery options and expect it to be offered in an expansive range
After making its world premiere, the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV had its Indian showcase at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo this year and is now gearing up for launch in the near future. The upcoming electric SUV will share its underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara. The Japanese auto major earlier confirmed that the EV will go on sale in H2 2025.
However, the e Vitara itself has not been introduced yet and Maruti Suzuki looks to be moving ahead with the debut of a new midsize ICE SUV early next month. We expect the Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV to arrive before the closure of this year or in early 2026 and it will be produced alongside the e Vitara at SMC’s plant in Gujarat.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser BEV will be available in the overseas markets with two lithium-iron-phosphate battery options and an all-wheel-drive setup. Measuring 4,285 mm in length with a 2,700 mm wheelbase, the SUV is said to offer more cabin space compared to its Maruti Suzuki counterpart. For India, the model is expected to closely follow the global version.

The range will start with a 49 kWh pack that produces 144 hp and comes exclusively with a front-wheel-drive setup. A larger 61 kWh pack will also be available – offered in both front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. In front-wheel-drive form, it generates 174 hp while the all-wheel-drive version pushes output to 184 hp thanks to an additional 48 kW motor mounted on the rear axle.
Toyota has claimed that the Urban Cruiser BEV will deliver a range of more than 500 km on a single charge – backed by DC fast charging support for quicker recharges. As part of the brand’s global EV strategy, the five-seater midsize SUV is expected to be a crucial addition – helping the automaker strengthen its electric portfolio.

As for the interior, it gets a horizontally laid-out, low-set instrument panel to enhance forward visibility while the elevated seating position should ensure a more confident driving stance according to Toyota. Thanks to its dedicated EV platform that eliminates conventional floor crossmembers, the SUV accommodates a larger battery pack without compromising overall cabin space.
The equipment list comprises a large touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, an all-digital instrument console, six airbags as standard, vertically positioned AC vents, a flat-bottom steering wheel, ventilated seats at the front, automatic climate control, drive modes and plenty more.
