Toyota Land Cruiser FJ will reportedly be shown to a select audience at a private media preview on October 20
After years of speculation, Toyota’s much-talked-about “Mini Land Cruiser” is finally gearing up for its first official outing. Japanese outlet MagX reports that the all-new Land Cruiser FJ will be shown to a select audience at a private media preview on October 20, 2025 just before making its public debut the following day.
The reveal is being timed as a prelude to the brand’s showcase at the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2025 where a production-spec model is expected to take centre stage but Toyota has not made any official announcement on its existence yet. The FJ is seen as a spiritual successor to the legendary FJ Cruiser – only smaller, more accessible and designed to meet stringent emissions norms and appeal to wider audiences.
Rumours suggest that the SUV will be built on the IMV 0 ladder frame platform, the same underpinnings as the Hilux Champ which could enable genuine off-road capability. As for the design, it will more likely channel an upright silhouette along with a boxy profile with short overhangs, squared wheel arches, thick C-pillars and exposed cladding.

Powertrain details remain sparse but early reports point to a 2.7-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine sourced from Toyota’s Fortuner and Hilux range. It is expected to deliver around 163 hp and 245 Nm of torque – paired with both manual and automatic options. There’s talk of Toyota exploring additional variants, possibly including turbo petrol, diesel or hybrid versions down the line.
We do expect it to use a 2.4-litre GD series oil burner found in the Fortuner and Hilux in developing markets including India. Production of the Land Cruiser FJ will reportedly take place in Thailand which will serve as the export hub for international markets. The SUV’s Japan launch is said to be slated for mid-2026 with other regions likely to follow soon after.

After years of renders, teasers, and endless fan speculation, the possible arrival of the Land Cruiser FJ indicates a return to Toyota’s utilitarian roots – a compact, go-anywhere off-roader aimed at high volume sales as it could be pitched below the Fortuner full-size SUV as a no-frills package in many markets.
