Tesla Opens First-Ever Supercharger Station in India at Mumbai’s One BKC

Tesla has officially marked its entry into India’s EV charging landscape by launching its inaugural Supercharger station at One BKC, Mumbai — a move that signals the beginning of a nationwide fast-charging network tailored for Tesla owners and potentially compatible EVs in the future.

The new site is equipped with four V4 DC Superchargers and four AC Destination Chargers, catering to both high-speed charging needs and slower, overnight or workplace top-ups. The V4 Superchargers, Tesla’s latest global standard, deliver faster charging speeds with improved efficiency, ensuring a substantial range boost in just minutes.

Pricing for the DC Superchargers has been set at ₹24 per kWh, making it competitive in the premium fast-charging segment while still emphasizing convenience and reliability. The AC Destination chargers, ideal for longer parking durations, are expected to follow separate tariff norms or be integrated into venue-specific charging arrangements.

Why This Matters for India’s EV Ecosystem
Tesla’s entry into the Indian charging market isn’t just about catering to its own upcoming fleet — it’s also a statement on accelerating EV adoption in the country. With India’s EV market growing at an unprecedented pace, the lack of a robust, high-speed charging network has been a critical bottleneck. Tesla’s technology-driven approach, proven reliability, and global experience in deploying charging networks could set a new benchmark for the industry.

The Road Ahead
Tesla has hinted at a rapid expansion plan for its charging infrastructure in India. Industry insiders expect upcoming Supercharger locations in major metros like Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad, followed by strategic placements along key intercity highways to enable long-distance EV travel.

Given Tesla’s history in other markets, the network may eventually open to other EV brands — subject to compatibility standards — helping accelerate India’s transition to sustainable mobility.

The One BKC location, being in the heart of Mumbai’s business district, is a strategic choice: it offers visibility to affluent customers, accessibility for corporate users, and a premium showcase for Tesla’s brand presence ahead of its anticipated vehicle sales launch in the country.

With this launch, Tesla isn’t just selling EV dreams to India — it’s laying down the power lines to make them real.
