Tata Motors is expanding its electric car portfolio with the all-new Sierra EV to take on the Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti e-Vitara

Tata Motors will launch a new electric SUV in the form of Sierra EV in the coming months to rival Hyundai Creta EV and Maruti e-Vitara in the Indian market. The home-grown automaker is bringing back the iconic Sierra nameplate in an all-new avatar with all-electric and ICE powertrains. However, the buzz is that Tata Sierra EV will be launched ahead of the petrol and diesel-powered versions by the end of 2025. It was unveiled amidst much fanfare at the 2025 Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year in pre-production guise.

One of the biggest highlights of Tata Sierra EV will be the massive floating triple screen setup which will serve as the driver’s digital display, central touchscreen infotainment system and passenger side infotainment unit. It will come loaded with premium features in the form of Panoramic sunroof, Heads-up Display (HUD), Dashcam, Ventilated front seats and Android Auto & Apple CarPlay connectivity.

Tata Sierra EV will borrow most of the safety equipment from the recently launched Harrier EV. It is likely to be offered with Level 2 ADAS, 6-airbags, 360-degree camera, Hill hold assist, Electronic Stability Program and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System among others. It will also be packed with modern charging tech in the form of V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) and V2V (Vehicle-to-Vehicle).

Apart from the standard 6- and 7-seater variants, Tata Motors is also planning to roll out a 4-seater lounge type cabin layout with the high-end variants of the SUV. Though it has not been captured on camera yet, we expect to get more details on the same in the coming days. The concept showcased L-shaped sofa-like seats at the rear with several bells and whistles such as foldable tray tables, Smartphone chargers and infotainment screens.

While most of the Tata EV models have been converted from their ICE versions, Tata Sierra EV has been built from the ground as an electric SUV. It is based on the Acti.ev platform which has been borrowed from the Punch EV and Curvv EV. For the unversed, Tata Sierra ICE version is underpinned by the ATLAS architecture.

The Sierra EV is likely to be powered by the same 65 kWh 75 kWh battery packs of the Harrier EV, albeit with slightly different driving range. The Harrier EV returns range of 538 km and 627 km (as per MIDC Part 1 + Part 2 Cycle) with 65 kWh and 75 kWh batteries, respectively, on a single charge. The Sierra EV might also get the QWD (AWD) system.

Tata Sierra EV bookings could start around the festive season of Diwali 2025 in October. It will be locally developed at the company’s Pune production facility while the first deliveries are likely to commence by the end of 2025.
