New Tata Sierra will be three engine and as many gearbox choices; bookings to commence next month
Tata Motors reintroduced the Sierra nameplate in its all-new internal combustion avatar a few days ago. Priced from Rs 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the new Sierra sits above the Curvv in Tata’s lineup and will be available in Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Accomplished and Accomplished+ trims. Bookings are set to open on December 16 while customer deliveries will begin in mid-Jan 2026.
The homegrown brand has its expectations set for the new midsize SUV as it is confident the Sierra will help it climb from its current 16 to 17 per cent SUV market share to nearly 20 to 25 per cent. The midsize SUV space typically garners over 40,000 unit sales every month. According to Tata, nearly 60 per cent of Sierra sales are expected to come from petrol models.
Meanwhile. the new 1.5-litre turbo GDI petrol alone is projected to record around 20 per cent of the total. The new Sierra is powered by three engine options. The 1.5-litre turbocharged petrol produces 160 PS and 255 Nm while the familiar 1.5-litre diesel engine generates 120 PS and up to 280 Nm. There is also a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine making 106 PS and 145 Nm.

Buyers can choose between a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 6-speed torque converter automatic or a DCT automatic transmission. Built on Tata’s ARGOS modular platform, the new Sierra has been engineered to meet modern safety standards. Tata even demonstrated a head-on crash test between two Sierras during its launch presentation to highlight its structural integrity.
As for the design, the SUV carries forward the spirit of the original Sierra with a boxy silhouette, a large glasshouse and upright proportions – combined with slim headlamps, full-width light bars and dual-tone alloy wheels. Courtesy of the long wheelbase, it offers plenty of space for occupants on the inside while the boot holds a volume of 622 litres.
